My Zahra

You
My flesh and my blood
Living proof
Statement of love shared in the holy matrimony
I gaze into your sparkling eyes
And saw your trust, and your honest adoration
Borderless affections without any judgement
As if I was the greatest thing in your life
As if you're saying
"Hey, mama, you know, i really, really like you"
And I can feel my own heart bursting to the seams
With fierce love and devotion
Can there be anymore love between human
Than a love from a mother to her child?

...

I woke up today feeling pretty lousy.
Its Ramadhan 12th,
And I'm feeling nostalgic to the bone.

I miss home pretty bad.

Miss my mom,
Miss my family,
Miss my friends,
Miss my old office,
Miss Malaysia.

So bad.
So darn bad.

step by step : to die for blueberry muffins!

Raisya's a huge sucker for blueberries...so we have a huge pint of them in the fridge. Figured might as well make some yummy blueberry muffins for her mommy and daddy hehehe...

TO DIE FOR BLUEBERRY MUFFINS

Original recipe is here. What you need for the muffins:
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 egg
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1 cup fresh blueberries

  • Crumbly Topping
  • 1/2 cup white sugar (i use brown sugar instead)
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup butter, cubed
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Get your ingredient together..

Mix the dry ingredient for the muffins first - flour, sugar, salt, baking powder

Fill 1/3 cup of 1-cup measurement cup with oil, put the egg, then fill up to the brim with milk

Pour the mixture to the dry ingredient - mix well

Fold in the fresh blueberries - the mixture should be thick enough that the berries stick to it like glue so as to avoid them from sinking to the bottom when baking

Line the muffin cups with muffin liners. Fill with the mixture. It should be enough for about ten muffins.

Mix together the ingredients for topping. The butter should be in room tempt so that it mixes well.

Slather a thin layer on top of the muffins. Bake for 20-25 minutes.

Cool on tray.

...then, devour! This recipe truly lives up to its name - the topping adds some crunch and the inside is soft and not too overbearingly sweet, and the tart berries are just luscious...a sure keeper! You can substitute with other types of fruits too!

kitchen tip of the day

I love green onion (daun bawang) in my stir-fry and a sprinkle on top of soup, nasi goreng and other dishes. But I usually only use the green part of the green onion for cooking and throw away the white root part. Now I know this simple tip that can save me from buying another green onion! After cutting the green part, put the white root in a jar filled with water and store in the fridge. The green tip will grow right back so no need to buy new ones! See how mine is starting to grow?
